Students Prepare for District
UIL Meet in Mabank

Last Saturday, a UIL invitational meet was held at Mabank High School. Several students from CHS competed in events such as journalism, science, mathematics, and computer applications. By the end of the meet, those students had obtained eight medals.

Head Journalism Coach, Karen Vandiver, was excited about the outcome of the meet.

“I was absolutely thrilled with our results and can’t wait to see how we perform at district.”, said Mrs. Vandiver.

Senior Valedictorian Elyssa Crouch placed third in copy-editing and sixth in spelling.

“It was really exciting to see my practice put to work,” said Elyssa.

Senior Elex Crouch placed sixth in copy-editing.

“I am really happy about how everyone did. We had a lot of medalists in such a large competition with 31 schools, and I definitely think we can do even better at district.”, said Elex.

This was Junior Anais Ortiz’s first U.I.L. meet.

“It was my first meet, but it was a wonderful experience, and the atmosphere was great!”, said Anais.
As District approaches, students participating in U.I.L. continue to practice in hopes of qualifying for regionals. “I feel the Mabank Mad Dash Invitational U.I.L. meet was a huge success because it allowed our students to practice before our district meet in April. We got 8 medals, which is a strong indication of how we could do at District!” Mahailey Oliver, UIL coordinator for CHS, said.
